About Us
Founded in 2021, OnyxVFX is one of the first of its kind to be a fully virtual visual effects studio providing end to end content creation fully in the cloud allowing Onyx to be creative, efficient, and agile and while maintaining full control over data security.
OnyxVFX can easily stay in line with project changes and deliver on a large scale efficiently. The work from home setup doesn’t hold us back––it empowers us to grow creatively leveraging cloud technology to advance our visual effects game from the comfort of our favorite loungewear.

John Stewart
Founder / Visual Effects Supervisor / Carpenter / Musician
After creating and managing a successful inHouse VFX business for over a decade, John decided to take his nearly 20 years in visual effects experience and technical know-how to create and expand into new territory with OnyxVFX. He envisioned a fully remote, cloud-based VFX Studio that offered all the security requirements of today’s highly IP sensitive content, while not sacrificing on efficiency or the talent he could attract. When not writing software or supervising projects, you will likely find John covered in saw dust or mucking about on the guitar. Maybe both.
Chapel Folger
Visual Effects Producer / BBQ Pitmaster
A Graduate of Carnegie Mellon University School of Drama, Chapel has a long career producing and project managing all things entertainment. She has produced for episodic and feature films, managed national touring stage shows, built theme park rides for Universal Studios Parks, and prior to joining the OnyxVFX team, project managed the design and construction of Avengers Campus at Disney’s California Adventure for Walt Disney Imagineering. When not at Onyx, you’ll find Chapel next to her smoker with a beer in her hand, 10 hours into a Brisket cook.

OnyxVFX uses a fully remote and highly monitored multi cloud environment that is designed from the ground up with a security first approach. Your project data is secure and completely isolated from any other tenets and projects in our environments.
Our infrastructure has continuous compliance monitoring and automated remediation through our NSA WALKOFF application stack. We also offer BYOK to ensure project specific encryption standards are met and allow our customers peace of mind. Our multi cloud approach gives us the ability to deploy entire accounts that are dedicated to a specific project.
Our asset management and tracking system was custom designed to ensure data integrity at scale and ensure no unauthorized access of your data and we work with our search partners to scour the public and deep web to ensure our data is not exfiltrated.
Our teradici™ workstations are deployed with industry leading security standards including DoD STIGs and other hardening frameworks.
